History of Maadi Messenger
The Maadi Messenger Vol. 1, No. 1, was first produced by the Maadi Community Church, Maadi, Egypt, March of 1972. This issue states, "This first issue of the Maadi Messenger represents an effort to communicate activities and news of interest to members of the Maadi Community Church and its friends." While the overall effort of the magazine has remained throughout the years the scope of its influence has broadened from simply "members of the Maadi Community Church and its friends" to the Maadi community and expats all over the world who have been served by its pages over its rich 40 year history. That first issue and many which would follow introduced readers to new arrivals in the Maadi community. Names, ages, country of origin, and purpose of arrival for the newcomers, were all served to those early readers. While we certainly could not deliver this type of content (times have changed) now-a-days, we still strive to connect the community together with a family-friendly, inviting, community-building publication. "From the Pastor's Desk" highlighted the MCC Pastor's thoughts for the issue. In that hand-drawn, typewritten first issue the Pastor's thoughts were these, "Now, in 1972, the church is still trying to make itself available to as broad a base as possible. We are happy for this new form of 'Message Bearer' and hope you find it helpful to relate as closely as you wish to the church in Maadi and to all the community activities that we can list. The Maadi Messenger is one more way to give expression to the community about a particular segment of the total community life." Rev. Dale Compton. We are still carrying on the same purpose to produce a helpful tool for the community, by which people of all nations and backgrounds can be drawn together in Maadi to share life together in a positive and uplifting manner. We now call "From the Pastor's Desk" - "Pastor's Reflections" but the theme is the same, to give expression to the church's message of life, love and community. If you have peculiar or interesting history stories concerning the Maadi Messenger over the past 40 years, please contact us at MaadiMessenger directly, we would love to hear them.
